Utica Sistema de atención del distrito escolar de la ciudad
El Distrito Escolar de la Ciudad de Utica se complace en asociarse con agencias de la comunidad para establecer un modelo de "Sistema de Atención" dentro del entorno escolar para proporcionar intervenciones y servicios a los estudiantes que puedan necesitar apoyo adicional para lograr el éxito escolar. Las áreas de apoyo incluyen lo académico, lo socio-emocional, el comportamiento y la asistencia. Las agencias asociadas trabajan en colaboración con el personal del Distrito en los trece edificios. Si un niño ha sido seleccionado para recibir apoyo de uno de estos socios, los padres/tutores serán contactados para dar su permiso firmado. Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection (HW-SC) is a nationally-recognized youth development program that helps at-risk secondary school students stay in school and earn their high school diploma, while providing invaluable part-time work experience and job skills to help prepare them for life after graduation. Full-time, professional Youth Advocates provide long-term mentoring and connect students to a 360-degree web of individualized support. HW-SC empowers students with the skills and confidence they need to realize their dreams of success at school, at home, and on the job.

ICAN provides an array of custom-tailored support services to meet the needs of Utica City School District students. Services include a comprehensive program providing behavioral and mental health supports within special education classroom settings, student engagement specialists in all thirteen buildings providing supports and interventions to meet the needs of identified students, the ability to access the ICAN network of providers through their Independent Practice Association (IPA) services; and customized training for staff, students and parents. All programs utilize evidence-based principles and are centered around a core philosophy of Wraparound care.

On Point for College is a nationally-recognized college attainment program. It was founded in 1999 to help first-generation students gain access to college. In the years since, it has expanded its offerings to include college success (completion) support, FAFSA informational sessions, career planning and placement support, and most recently, support with non-college post-secondary credential attainment. On Point services are free and available to students of all ages, backgrounds, and educational levels. On Point specializes in helping high school students and recent graduates, as well as those who have been away from school for a while or who have earned GED or HSE credentials.

Safe Schools Mohawk Valley provides support services to identified students in all thirteen buildings. Interventions target improved school attendance, increased school engagement, decreased negative behavior and increased social and emotional strengths. Referrals come from school staff. Safe Schools helps to eliminate barriers to school attendance, helps students struggling in the classroom to be more actively involved in their education, manage emotions and use coping skills to improve behavior. Safe Schools also provides supports to students identified as temporarily without housing.

Young Scholars Liberty Partnerships Program (YSLPP) is a multi-year collaborative program, established in 1993 with Utica University and the Utica City School District (UCSD). This program is designed by education professionals to motivate diverse and talented students with potential to stay in school, earn a New York State Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation, and graduate college and career ready. From entering in grade seven, until graduation, Young Scholars students participate in a year-round comprehensive program providing academic, social, and cultural enrichment.

Upward Bound led by MVCC provides opportunities and fundamental support to its participants to succeed in their precollege academics and preparation for college entrance. Upward Bound serves high school students from low-income families and/or students from families in which neither parent holds a bachelor's degree. The goal of Upward Bound is to increase the rate at which participants complete secondary education and enroll in, and graduate from institutions of postsecondary education. Upward Bound offers extensive tutoring and mentoring, participates in various local community service events, college campus visits, and provides participants with a performance-based quarterly stipend and a work-study stipend during the required six week Summer College Program.

MVCC STEP 
The MVCC Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP) is jointly sponsored by the College and the New York State Education Department. STEP serves to encourage qualified high school students to consider careers in STEM fields and licensed professions. Programming includes peer mentoring, tutoring, standardized test preparation, college visits, workshops, and educational field trips — activities centered on fostering student success in high school and beyond. STEP currently works with UCSD students in JFK, Donovan, and Proctor.
Goals
STEP is a New York State Department of Education grant-funded enrichment initiative designed:
- To foster academic excellence.
- To nurture students' preparation for college.
- To cultivate student independence.
- To enhance students' college experience.
- To increase awareness and opportunities for economically disadvantaged youth in math, science, technology, and health-related fields.

MVCC GEAR UP
GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) is a grant-funded initiative through the U.S. Department of Education and a collaborative partnership between Mohawk Valley Community College (MVCC) and the Utica City School District designed to support students and families on the path to college and career success. GEAR UP serves all current 2025–2026 UCSD 7th grade students and stays with them through high school graduation and their first year of college, providing long-term guidance and support. The program helps students build essential skills such as critical thinking, communication, technology and media literacy, initiative, and productivity, while also helping families better understand academic expectations, postsecondary options, and financial planning. By starting early in middle school, GEAR UP works to ensure students are academically, socially, and financially prepared to successfully enter and complete the postsecondary program or institution of their choice. Services include, but not limited to: mentoring, tutoring, college visitations, career awareness and readiness workshops, financial literacy, leadership training, family supports, job shadowing, pre-apprenticeships, just to name a few.
